In the Abjectified Project we investigate the use of repulsive aesthetics in drag and stage contexts. We draw from a combined heritage of alternative drag tradition, horror film, abject art and affect theory.

From 2023–25, Peter and Jens Martin organized four shows in collaboration with Open Drag Stage, which we called Abjectified with subtitles “FILTH”, “GORE” and “BIRTH” on the last three editions. With this project, we want to lift Abjectified out of the “drag cabaret format” and into the performing arts and a more holistic scenic dramaturgy. We have had a joint show practice on various occasions since 2018 and repulsive practice since 2020 and 2023.

Our main objective with this art collective is to take control of what is being see as repulsive, being queer. By taking back this we want to give ourself empowerment in being ugly, filthy and taking risks by exposing ourselves to society in this manner. We also think there are beauty to be seen in what is repulsive.
